Job Summary:

The Department of Transplant Surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Staff Assistant 1. The successful candidate will:

  • Schedule meetings and appointments for the Department Chief.
  • Perform telephone triage, assessing problems and ensuring patient phone calls are routed to the appropriate health care provider, including clinicians, nurses, social workers, and mental health providers.
  • Greet patients and guide them as necessary.
  • Help maintain patient flow by ensuring frequent communication with staff.
  • Conduct missed appointment follow up.
  • Communicate with other health care facilities regarding the transfer of medical records, ensuring signed consent for all patient information.
  • Handle patient charts, packing charts as needed by the department.
  • Prepare meeting agenda/materials and attend meetings for note-taking purposes.
  • Distribute mail.
  • Cover the clinic as needed by the department.
  • Transcribe meeting minutes.
  • Create and edit correspondence, presentations, and proposals.
  • Organize projects and prep files as necessary for review and delivery, if required.
  • Organize and maintain electronic and paper files.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and perform other duties assigned by the Chief, as business needs warrant. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree.
  • 3 to 5 years of administrative experience in a health care setting.
  • Strong computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of Eagle and HealthBridge.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, attention to detail and decision making skills. 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 9:00am to 5:00pm

Salary Grade/Rank:

SL-2

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
