Job Summary:

The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH CTS EKG Associate, Coronary Care Unit (Evenings). The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct cardiac monitoring on the adult population.
  • Perform phlebotomy. 
  • Perform direct nursing care activity as delegated.
  • Perform indirect nursing activities as determined by routine assignment as well as clinic activity.
  • Perform effective infection control measures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of normal growth and development in the delivery of care to patients. 
  • Respond to the changing needs of patient care areas.
  • Obtain, record, and exchange information on behalf of the patient.
  • Plan appropriately to meet clinic objectives and take initiatives where necessary.
  • Take an active role in managing resources.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities.
  • Participate in personal/professional development.
  • Use Ethical principles to guide decisions and actions consistent with UHG's operating goals and objectives.
  • Respect and promote patients' rights.
  • Fosters/maintains positive public relations with patients, families, visitors, and staff.
  • Communicates effectively with customers, visitors, patients, and staff.
  • Represents the hospital positively by demonstrating respect and courtesy to all patients, colleagues, staff, and visitors.
  • Perform other job related duties as needed and/or required. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of training course(s) and/or certificate for electrocardiography (EKG) or electrocardiograph (ECG), and Phlebotomy. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Basic Life Support (BSL) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training to the above. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-year of full-time experience providing essential treatment and patient care under professional supervision.
  • Graduate of a Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program and/or graduate of a Medical Assistant Program. 

Work Schedule:

Variable Days; 3:30pm to 12:00am (Full-Time Evenings)

SL-2

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
