Job Summary:

The Department of Family and Community Medicine in the College of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Clinical Associate Professor (GFT) / Residency Program Director.  

This faculty member will devote 50% of their effort to directing the Family and Community Medicine Residency Program, a three-year accredited program with six residents at each training level. The Program Director responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the planning, implementation and evaluation of all teaching and administrative activities of the residency program.
  • Lead the development and continual improvement of faculty of the residency program.
  • Maintaining continuous compliance with residency program requirements set by the ACGME.
  • Participating in recruiting and evaluating resident performance.
  • Serves as a core family medicine faculty member. Annual Program Evaluation, Special Reviews and Internal Reviews:
  • Conduct an Annual Program Evaluation to assess and monitor any action items developed, and record in New Innovations in a timely fashion.
  • Develop action plans for correction of areas of non-compliance as identified by ACGME, and provide periodic updates to the GME Office.
  • Work with the Department Chair and the Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education to ensure the residency program provides an outstanding training environment for our residents.
  • The remaining 50% of the faculty members effort will be devoted to direct patient care in the clinic (outpatient) and inpatient settings.

Required Qualifications:

  • New York State Physician Licensure.
  • Board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine or by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians.
  • Family Medicine expertise and a minimum of 3-years of documented educational and/or administrative experience, or qualifications acceptable to the Review Committee. 
  • Ongoing clinical activity.
  • Previous leadership experience.
