Job Summary:

The Department of Hospital Administration at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Director of Quality & Performance Improvement.

Reporting to the AVP of Regulatory Affairs and Patient Safety, the Director of Quality and Performance Improvement is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing activities of quality management and performance improvement in the institution to achieve the hospital’s goals in promoting patient safety and improving outcomes in patient care.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the Performance Improvement Department activities and ensures that the Performance Improvement goals that have been established by the organization's leadership are achieved.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with the AVP of Regulatory Affairs, and the Chief Medical Officer and hospital leadership for the purpose of planning the agenda and discussion at the Executive Performance Improvement Council {EPIC), Quality Report to the Governing Board meetings and departmental Pl meetings and ensure timely completion and review of minutes.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Risk Management in NYPORTS/Sentinel Event Reporting and Evaluation Process.
  • Supervises the day to day activities of the Quality Department.
  • Ensures implementation of Hospital Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Plan in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, the AVP of Regulatory, and the Director of Patient Safety.
  • Oversees ongoing medical record review to ensure compliance with Patient Care initiatives, Regulatory Standards and Documentation & Coding.
  • Ensure Hospital's OPPE/FPPE process in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, and the Director of Data Analytics.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, and the QRRS Directors, and the GME improves and enriches the clinical learning environment for trainees.
  • Coordinates Hospital Wide Performance Improvement Projects.
  • Represents QAPI at hospital-wide committees as designated.
  • Works with the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief Experience Officer, and the AVP of Regulatory Affairs, to implement and maintain High Reliability Journey among the hospital staff.
  • Oversees the quality processes to achieve improvements in HEDIS metrics, PCMH and other outpatient quality metrics in collaboration the Chief Medical Officer, and the AVP for Ambulatory Services.
  • Coordinates with all departments to organize process improvement projects to ensure patient safety and improvement in quality metrics.
  • Provides an oversight to readmissions, mortality and the Peer Review committee case reviews.
  • Serves as the hospital IPRO Liaison.
  • Serves as a hospital liaison for LiveOnNY.
  • Serves as a resource to departmental staff and hospital staff on Performance Improvement standards and regulations.
  • Ensures that goals established via the Hospital's QA/Pl Performance Improvement Plan are implemented.
  • Ensure the timeliness of Human Resources mandates including Employee Orientation, Performance Evaluations, Mandatory In-Service Training and Competency Assessments for department according to hospital standards.
  • Works with the Director of Data Analytics to ensure the timeliness of reporting and accuracy of Dashboard Measures, Core Measures and Departmental Indicator data are achieved.
  • Consults with departments to assist them in meeting the standard of Performance Improvement as outlined in TJC Performance Improvement Standards.
  • Ensure that the Quality and PI Department is compliant with the TJC and other regulatory agencies standards.
  • Facilitates responses to on quality matters as requested.
  • Provide education to hospital staff on Performance Improvement Standards and related issues.
  • Participates in ongoing Mock Surveys.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the AVP of Regulatory Affairs, and/or The Chief Medical Officer.

Required Qualifications:

  • Clinical Degree.  
  • 3+ years of work experience in quality and patient safety.
  • Experience with CMS and accrediting organization regulatory requirements. 
  • Experience in HRO and performance improvement projects implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Exceptional combination of interpersonal expertise, clinical knowledge, innovation, leadership, management, business acumen, vision, and tenacity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Health Care Administration; or healthcare related field is preferred

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 9:00am to 5:00pm (Full-Time)

MP-3

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
