Job Summary:

The Department of Neurology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH CTS EEG Associate. The successful candidate will:

  • Perform a wide range of Electroencephalograms following the guidelines and protocols established by the Epilepsy department. 
  • Perform, under minimal supervision, routine, continuous and STAT EEG studies on patients of all ages, from neonates to the elderly.  EEG's will be performed on both outpatients and inpatients throughout the hospital.
  • Adhere to professional ethical responsibilities and confidentiality. 
  • Edit and archive EEG data as per laboratory protocol.
  • Obtain pertinent medical history from patients and medical record.
  • Apply electrodes according to the 10-20 system, checks impedance and selects montages appropriate for patient age and state.
  • Recognize artifacts and takes steps to eliminate them.   
  • When indicated by the circumstances of the EEG recording, applies additional electrodes to monitor EKG, eye movement, respiration, etc.
  • Is able to perform studies on severely ill, isolated and/or combative patients, taking measures to ensure the safety of the patient and self.
  • Recognize clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results. 
  • Demonstrate physical ability to assist with movement of patients and testing equipment.
  • Learn new procedures and equipment as required.
  • Understand key issues related to electrical safety of clinical equipment.
  • Work within a team and other technologists to optimize patient outcomes and laboratory efficiency.
  • Be available for on-call duties as required by policy and business need.
  • Maintain EEG/EMU logbooks.
  • Maintain electrodes in working order and in good physical condition.
  • Assist with maintaining and ordering supplies.
  • Perform other duties as requested by Chief Technologist.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Completion of a formal EEG training program.
  • BLS certification.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Word and Excel. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree or higher.
  • Completion of a CAAHEP accredited EEG training program.
  • 2-years of clinical EEG experience. 

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 9:00am to 5:00pm (Full-Time)

SL-2

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
