Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Physical Therapist 1. The successful candidate will:

  • Evaluate and treat patients referred for skilled physical therapy in acute care and acute rehabilitation setting, according to department's standard of care.
  • Establish treatment goals and create plan of care to attain established goals.
  • Provide appropriate prn education to patient and family alike.
  • Provide instruction to the patient, family members and other health care professionals involved in the care of the patient.
  • Participate prn in interdisciplinary rounds & huddles.
  • Evaluate and submit requests for durable medical equipment and adaptive assistive devices, orthotics, and prosthetic needs.
  • Maintain Department productivity, standards and procedures.
  • Provide supervision to physical therapy assistants, rehabilitation and volunteers.
  • Coordinate and participates and provide Department Onboarding orientation, Department inter-department in services and other professional department activities.
  • Coordinate and participate in instructional activities for students, nurses and house staff.
  • Manage patient assignments, billing and treatment related records.
  • Assist in management of IT inventory control, equipment and record maintenance.
  • Assist in development and interpretation of Department policies and procedures. 
  • Provide prn supervisory coverage as a department Lead Therapist (IDT rounds, image supervision etc).
  • Perform prn committee work at the University Hospital at Downstate. (UHB)
  • Participate in prn basic science and clinical research in the area of physical therapy.   
  • Participate in prn community outreach, educational and clinical activities.
  • Participate and assist in department quality improvement initiatives and related activities. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree OR Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
  • New York State Physical Therapist Licensure.
  • 10+ years of Physical Therapist experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BLS Certification.

Variable Days; Variable Hours (Full-Time)

SL-4

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
