Job Summary:
|
The Occupational Therapy Program in the School of Health Professions at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor (12-Month), Tenure Track. The successful candidate will:
- Prepare for and teach course(s) (didactic, lab/experiential, clinical) within area of expertise to occupational therapy students in the Master's and/or Post-Professional Doctorate program, as assigned annually.
- Manage all aspects of course delivery including grading; use of learning management system; developing and updating course materials, syllabi, and lesson plans, maintaining student records.
- Developing and updating course materials, syllabi, and lesson plans.
- Provide guidance and leadership to students through advisement and mentorship, counseling and referring to appropriate party, as needed.
- Supervise student capstone projects.
- Participate in program, school, and university-wide professional activities, as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain regular office hours.
- Maintain all professional credentials for position held.
- Maintain an in-person presence on campus, ensuring active participation in the academic community and fostering relationships with students and faculty alike.
- Actively participate in program and committee meetings, as well as campus events, is expected, allowing the faculty member to contribute to ongoing curriculum development, program evaluation, and ACOTE accreditation activities.
- Demonstrate strong inter-professional and communication skills.
- Collaborate with Program Chair and faculty to ensure quality of curriculum.

Required Qualifications:
|
- An earned Doctorate (PhD, OTD, EdD, Dr.PH, DHSc, or other relevant doctoral-level degree) awarded by an institution accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body.
- New York State Occupational Therapy License.
- 8+ years of clinical experience in occupational therapy, specializing in adult rehabilitation.
- Active NBCOT certification.
- Strong verbal and written communications skills; clinical experience, computer proficiency.
- Demonstrated evidence of five years of teaching graduate occupational therapy courses.
- Experience using Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Preferred Qualifications:

- Demonstrated evidence of teaching anatomy and kinesiology coursework.
