Job Summary:

The Department of Internal Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an hourly/per diem Clinical Instructor (HS) / On-Call Attending. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide necessary coverage for inpatients admitted to University Hospital under the supervision of private attendings. 
  • Perform admission histories and physical examinations on newly admitted patients to the medical service.
  • With the guidance of the supervisory physician, they will initiate diagnostic evaluations and therapeutics.
  • Monitor and manage inpatients with a wide variety of illnesses and perform daily examinations, assessments and effect the plan of care.
  • Demonstrate capability of performing selected procedures including but not limited to venipuncture, arterial punctures, IV insertions and NG tube placement.
  • Maintain medical records, including daily progress notes, transfer notes and discharge summaries. 
  • Participate with inpatient/family education on consultations as well as collaboration with social work and case management and discharge planning. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Medical Doctor Degree.
  • PGY2 and above.
