Job Summary:

The Department of Medical Education and the Office of Institutional Equity at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Senior Staff Assistant / Coordinator for Educational Programs. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide administrative support to the College of Medicine’s Office of Career Advising, which provides support to our medical students throughout all of their years in exploring medical careers, fostering mentorship relationships with faculty, pursuing dual degrees and navigating through the residency application process.
  • Be responsible for the following special projects: 
    • Assist with strategic planning for a new accelerated MD program in the College of Medicine.
    • Assist with reaching out to SUNY and other medical schools to identify best practices for developing accelerated programs, identify processes for recruitment and enrollment of students in the program, identify admission policies, and support Associate Deans with plans for curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
    • Support the Associate Deans with identifying community partnerships and opportunities for clinical exposure for students. 
    • Provide support for the expansion of the Bridges to Medicine Post-baccalaureate program and other pathway programs within the Office For Institutional Equity.
    • Assist with outreach efforts and partnership development that will enhance enrollment, growth, and sustainability of the Bridges to Medicine program and other pathway programs.
    • Coordinate efforts with the Department of Medical Education and Office of Academic Support Services and Advisement to integrate new elements that will supplement students’ education.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in evaluation, collection, and analysis of program-related data.
  • Experience/familiarity with undergraduate pathways to health careers.
  • Experience in mentoring undergraduate students into health careers.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A demonstrated dedication to enhancing medical education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or higher in health-related sciences of public health preferred.

Variable Days; Variable Hours (Full-Time)

SL-3

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
