Job Summary:
|
The Student Counseling Center in the College of Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part-time Counselor, Mental Health Clinician.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for mental health and the ability to create a welcoming and supportive environment for students. The successful applicant will possess a strong combination of clinical knowledge, interpersonal skills, and the desire to serve our student population.
The Counselor will provide short term individual counseling and facilitate groups for students presenting with a wide range of concerns, some with long standing mental health histories, and to provide workshops related to mental health and wellness. Prior experience in treating anxiety, depression, eating disorders, sexual assault, substance abuse, trauma, ADHD, and working with first generation students, LGBTQIA+ students, and understanding of intersectionality. Additionally, the successful candidate will:
- Provide short term counseling, individual, couple, group and crisis intervention and make appropriate referrals as needed.
- Use EHR to complete all required documentation in a timely manner.
- Responsible for collaborating with faculty and staff to expand the scope of services offered by Counseling Services.
- Maintain professional standards of confidentiality and ethics in conjunction with established guidelines of appropriate professional associations
- Strong organizational and time management skills with flexibility to address student needs
- Ability to interact well with students, staff, faculty, administration, and external audiences
- Attend and participate in staff meetings.

Required Qualifications:
|
- Master's Degree in Social Work or Psychology.
- New York State Licensed Psychologist or Social Worker.
- Trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy including exposure-based treatment.

Preferred Qualifications:
|
- Psychology PhD and PsyD Degrees encouraged.
- Demonstrated desire to work with and be inclusive toward diverse students, faculty, and staff.
- Previous experience working in a college or university counseling setting preferred.
- Experience giving presentations and facilitating groups preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with campus personnel in academic affairs, faculty, and other student service providers.

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
- $40,000 to $50,000 Base Salary
*(Although this position is part-time, the incumbent will qualify for some New York State benefits including healthcare coverage options.)
