The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full time Respiratory Therapist 2. The successful candidate will:
- Provide respiratory care for patients under the direction of a physician.
- Make rounds to determine if patient is receiving proper respiratory care.
- Conduct ventilator management.
- Draw and analyze blood for arterial blood gases.
- Record respiratory progress of patients who are being ventilated mechanically.
- Record the respiratory status of all patients in the NICU and Pediatrics.
- Assist physicians in ventilating patients who can not sustain their own respiratory function during cardio-respiratory arrests.
- Provide sputum induction.
- Administer Nitric Oxide Therapy.
- Explain the use of respiratory care devices to patients and/or family members and assist in the use thereof.
- Make entries in patient’s progress record and hospital computer systems.
- Clean and decontaminate equipment once removed from patient use.
- Provide chest physio-therapy and assist in pulmonary lavage/suctioning.
- Will be assigned to work in other areas during times of staff shortages, emergencies, and as deemed necessary due to fluctuations in hospital census.
