Job Summary:

The Office of Institutional Equity at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Senior EEO Complaint Investigator/Senior EEO Associate/Assistant to Director 13.

The Office for Institutional Equity (OIE) at SUNY Downstate is dedicated to supporting a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. To this end, OIE is seeking to hire a Senior EEO Complaint Investigator/Senior EEO Associate who will work under the direct supervision of the Title IX Director and also with additional supervision of the Chief Diversity Officer and the Associate Vice President for Institutional Equity and will assist in the development, management and administration of EEO &Title IX investigations, compliance reviews and various university and hospital diversity initiatives.

The Senior EEO Complaint Investigator/Senior EEO Associate will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintain current knowledge and materials related to laws, rules, regulations, and best practices ensuring that Downstate follows all laws, rules and regulations including but not limited to Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, NYS EL Section 129-B, Americans with Disabilities Act, etc.
  • Investigate complaints that fall under the purview of Downstate's Non-Discrimination and Sexual Misconduct Policies as well as under Title IX, and prepare detailed investigative reports.
  • Assist Title IX Director with Title IX efforts including the development, implementation, and monitoring of appropriate disclosures, policies, procedures, and practices designed to comply with federal and state legislation.
  • Assist with the implementation, administration, and communication of diversity programs.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis data for EEO/Title IX compliance reports.
  • Develop and present training programs and disseminate information related to diversity, EEO, Title IX, and other compliance at the various Schools/Colleges and Hospital. 
  • Facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive case management system.
  • Perform related duties as assigned and/or as required. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience in human resources, higher education, employment law, or other relevant discipline is required.
  • Experience in student affairs, human resources, community relations, compliance or similar fields.
  • 5+ years of experience related to employment law, education law, Title IX, Legal Compliance, and/or other federal or state laws.
  • Must have the ability to investigate, interpret, analyze, advise on EEO/Title IX and related policies, regulations and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • JD or related advanced degree in relevant field of employment law, educational and/or hospital experience.
  • Experience conducting investigations and a record of success in EEO/AA and diversity arenas.
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and report on large volume, complex data.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with regulatory laws and requirements.
  • Relevant experience in working for a public facing office, or a higher education institution, knowledge of its structure, policies and practices.
  • Ability to present information to individuals and groups of varying sizes and hierarchal levels.
  • Must be capable of designing and executing training and education for multiple constituencies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information. 

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 9:00am to 5:00pm

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
