Job Summary:

The Department of Radiology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an hourly/per diem Ultrasound Technologist / TH Medical Radiographer 1. The successful candidate will:

  • Possess the required special knowledge of ultrasound and anatomy. 
  • Perform all diagnostic ultrasound procedures at a technical level; includes obtaining pertinent clinical and medical history of patients and obtaining follow-up examinations that are performed. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce high quality images efficiently regardless of volume; perform exams in accordance with established protocols. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage emergent situations and provide care, based on those needs. 
  • Adhere to infection policies to include Trophon probe disinfection process.
  • Be responsible for patient care while performing imaging, to include accuracy of patient identification. 
  • Be responsible for becoming fully knowledgeable of departmental policies and procedures including quality control. 
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills regarding equipment usage.
  • Assist in training student technologist and medical students rotating through the department.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide assistance to external and internal customers; provide excellent customer service.
  • Be responsible for teaching House Staff or other personnel in the technical aspects of imaging equipment.
  • Demonstrate prior experience with computerized patient information systems, including Radiology Information Systems and PACS.
  • Complete all exams immediately in RIS and verify on PACS.
  • Be accountable for burning CD's and DVD's when necessary.
  • Demonstrate flexibility as hours may change on an as-needed basis according to departmental operating needs.
  • Adhere to all SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and University Hospital of Brooklyn and department policies and procedures, to include principle of behavior. 
  • Maintain a courteous and pleasant disposition with all patients.
  • Adhere to time and attendance policies.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned and as business needs warrant. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree.
  • RDMS Certification or eligible and must be certified within 1-year of employment. 
  • Prior experience in all sonographic exams, to include gynecological, renal, neuro, Doppler small parts, OB, breast and abdominal. 
  • Be proficient in pediatric exams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a hospital setting preferred.
