The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Social Worker Assistant / Abortion Doula. The successful candidate will:
- Provide the required emotional and psychological support to patients undergoing abortions In New York State Abortion Access Program.
- Provide the patient with emotional, physical, informational and logistical support during and after the abortion. The critical emotional and psychological support will assist the patients in processing their feelings, reduce anxiety and will allow the patients to cope with the emotional aspects of the procedure.
- Provide guidance to the patient, enabling them to make informed decisions to become more informed and in control of their reproductive health.
- Function as an advocate for patient needs and preferences.
- Assist the patient in communicating effectively with the healthcare team.
