Job Summary:

The Department of Hospital Finance at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Value Analysis Coordinator / Manager.

As the coordinator of the Value Analysis (VA) process, this position will head a multi­disciplinary team of clinical, operations, procurement and supply chain content experts in the selection and implementation of quality products via a rigorous review process of change management. The role involves establishing and executing streamlined methodologies for clinical service/product selection, review and approval while reviewing patient quality, utilization, cost, contract management, and financial outcomes, providing expertise in supply expense management, resolving product quality concerns, and continuously monitoring outcomes for desired results. Works with Finance and respective stakeholders to develop analysis and recommendations to allow VA committee (VAC) decisions to be made. Works closely with both clinicians and administrators to achieve desired results.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Supply Chain Value Analysis:

  • Manages the Item Request Portal (IRP) which is the portal used to request, add, modify, change clinical products. This software manages the complete product request process and documentation of approval.
  • Identifies standardization, consolidation or logical contracting methodologies to support variation reduction for suppliers, services and products.
  • Maintains documentation of meetings, inclusive of minutes, attendees and voting records.
  • Ensure committee members and presenters sign conflict of interest agreement.
  • Works closely with Finance to ensure that new products are reviewed for financial reimbursement and analysis is completed.
  • Collaborates with Purchasing and Contract Management functions to ensure necessary contracts, negotiated terms, and procurement of VAC approved products and/or services are consistent with the VAC's (Value Analysis Committee) requirements. Works closely with the Supply Chain Contract Coordinator.
  • Acts as Value Analysis Committee Co-Chairperson. Builds monthly or as needed agenda and power point presentations with recommendations for committee action. Prepares physicians or clinicians to present justification for new products.
  • Monitors and reports on metrics related to cost savings, process improvements, and efficiency enhancements achieved through value-analysis initiatives provided by the Contract Coordinator.
  • Maintains knowledge of relevant rules, regulations, and policies affecting Value Analysis and Supply Chain areas. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with internal procedures. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding. Works closely with the Procurement department to follow appropriate procedures.
  • Maintains product conversion records.
  • Works with the Contract Coordinator and Group Purchasing Organization to maximize contract penetration and compliance.
  • Completes all financial analysis on new or replacement products or equipment for presentation to VAC when necessary.

Supply Chain Analytics and Systems:

  • Supports identifying new technologies integrations to enhance the supply chain value analysis program.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Business, Finance, or a related field and
  • 2+ years of experience in hospital supply chain operations or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Nursing degreed candidates do not require experience, recent graduates are acceptable.
