Job Summary:

The Department of Clinical Laboratories, Blood Bank at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Instructional Support Assistant / Lab Worker. The successful candidate will: 

  • Transport laboratory specimens and supplies, including logging and tracking of specimens in laboratory information systems.
  • Provide ancillary support for the operation of the laboratories.
  • Coordinate and manage the receipt and distribution of daily mail and other records among the laboratory sections.
  • Participate in departmental and hospital requirements of quality management, quality control, patient safety, continuing education and other aspects, as needed.
  • Ensure the recording, maintenance and retrieval of records in compliance with hospital and departmental policies.
  • Process/handle specimens in central receiving area.
  • Log specimens via lis (cerner). 
  • Participate in all aspects of quality assurance, quality control, patient safety, continuing education and other aspects as needed.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above description.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Hospital/Laboratory settings.
  • Prior work experience using computer training skill, i.e. Microsoft Word and Excel.

Variable Days; Variable Hours (Full-Time)

SL-1

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
