Job Summary:
|
The Department of Facilities Management and Development at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Facilities Program Coordinator/Senior Project Mechanical Engineer. The successful candidate will:
- Report to the Director for Design and Construction.
- Engage with the existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure including coordination with MEP.
- Provide oversight of all project phases including planning, scheduling, implementation, resource allocation, budgetary decisions, and all project related activities.
- Define and develop project goals and scope based on client/department stated needs.
- Meet with Hospital and University Administrators, Consulting Architects, Engineers and specialized consultants ensuring that program, scope and goals are understood and met.
- Monitor the preparation of design and construction drawings and specifications to ensure building standards are met.
- Coordination of schedules of design and construction project activities within the hospital and university; minimizing interference with the daily operations.
- Coordination of contractors, end-users, and other relevant department personnel for the duration of the project.
- Initiate the Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) and identify Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) where required, enforce identified measures ensuring that work conforms to design, quality and contractual standards.
- Prepare documentation, working in collaboration with Contracts and Procurement in the development of Request for Qualification (RFQ), Requests for Proposal (RFP) and construction bid documents.
- Ensure on-time project completion within the scope and budget in accordance with the contract documentation and all aspects of a design and construction project.
- Monitor construction, ensuring that the project schedule is maintained.
- Coordinate with Facilities Operations to provide the infrastructure interface requirements to existing building systems as related to Design and Construction projects.
- Coordinate contractors, end-users, and other relevant department personnel for the duration of the project.
- Prepare and oversee all financial aspects of a project, including estimates, project budget, funding, purchase orders, change orders, and requisition payments, from feasibility thru close-out.
- Identify and resolve budget problems, develop and maintain project cost reports and schedules.
- Prepare weekly project status and schedule updates and reports as well as monitor and update construction schedules.

Required Qualifications:
|
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5-7 years experience in construction management, preferably in a hospital and educational environment.
- A PE License.
- Knowledge of computer application.
- Knowledge of infection control guidelines and interim life safety measures.
- Capable of preparing mechanical, electrical and plumbing information and concept sketches with cost estimates and time-line schedules.
- Must be able to evaluate all conditions and work under pressure in case of emergency.

Preferred Qualifications:
|
- Strong administrative leadership skills and full knowledge of applicable NYS governing building codes are desirable.
|
