Job Summary:

The Midwifery Program in the School of Health Professions at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Program Chair. The successful candidate will:

  • Be responsible for the overall administration and leadership of the Midwifery Program.
  • Develop and implement annual and long-term program goals, policies and objectives.
  • Prepare and monitor program budget.
  • Secure external funding for program operation & development.
  • Recruit faculty and staff, and provide development, advisement and evaluation.
  • Develop curriculum (including distance learning modality), and conduct implementation and evaluation.
  • Recruit students including selection process and advisement.
  • Participate in classroom teaching and clinical supervision.
  • Participate in College and SUNY-wide committees and professional activities.
  • Work in partnership with affiliated agencies, consumer and community groups and serve as primary spokesperson of program.
  • Demonstrate professional and scholarly endeavors as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Midwifery or a Doctorate Degree in a closely related health discipline.
  • Current New York State Licensure as a CM or CNM (or eligibility for NYS Licensure at time of appointment) and be ACNM certified.
  • Current American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) credential as a Certified Midwife (CM) or Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM).
  • 2+ years of clinical midwifery practice with documented evidence of active and current clinical expertise.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience clinical and/or classroom.
  • Demonstrated administrative ability.
  • Commitment to simulation-based teaching and integrated midwifery education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum, as well as maintaining quality assurance and ensuring the integrity of student learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Record of scholarship/research in the form of peer-reviewed presentations and publications along with grant writing, and a record of grants secured.
  • Experience teaching in a registered or accredited Midwifery Program.
  • Ongoing professional development consistent with AMCB and NYSED expectations.
