Job Summary:

The Department of Social Work at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Social Work Manager / TH Associate Director of Social Services. The successful candidate will:

  • Provide clinical and administrative leadership and directing operations, programs and services of the Department of Social Work.
  • Serve all populations from newborns to Geriatrics and patients with all types of psychosocial, behavioral, medical, and surgical needs.
  • Maintain a direct working relationship with/supervising the Mother Cabrini Program;
  • Through direct and matrix reporting relationships, ensuring a quality-based, customer- oriented workflow.
  • In collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, participate in the development and implementation of protocols and standards of care for ER patients.
  • Monitor the process and outcomes of routine care to determine quality improvement needs.
  • Promote social work practice and patient care that is effective in promoting quality of care, assessment, continuum of care, and appropriate and timely discharge planning.
  • Demonstrate expertise in assessing concrete and clinical social work needs of the patient population with regard to patient condition and age and ensures that religious practices and beliefs.
  • Assume accountability for staff education and development and ensures competency of staff regarding age level, patients care needs and organizational and department-specific competencies.
  • Prepare annual budgets including projections and plans to ensure appropriate staffing as well as OTPS budget.
  • Participate in special projects for Hospital Administration, as requested.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Social Work.
  • New York State Social Worker Licensure (LMSW or LCSW).
  • 7+ years of experience working a clinical/medical setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to foster good working relationships with staff, management, union, employers and other collaborating professionals. 
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experienced, education and training to the above. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Multilingual preferred. 

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 8:30am to 4:30pm (Full-Time)

Salary Grade/Rank:

SL-5

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
