Job Summary:

The Department of Perioperative Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Staff Assistant I, Operating Room. The successful candidate will: 

  • Open the unit to receive surgery patients for surgical procedures.
  • Serve as a receptionist.
  • Check in arriving patients.
  • Verify patient demographics.
  • Check source documents.
  • Create charts for surgical procedures and surgeon preferences.
  • Notify the OR and Pre-Op nurses of patient readiness.
  • Assist managers with inventory and data collection.
  • Ensure timely responses to patient needs.
  • Assist with patient flow and bed throughput.
  • Collect data for patient billing.
  • Prepare post-surgical charts and files for pickup by medical records.
  • Provide physician support, managing various systems, maintaining patient logs in the recovery room, and ordering supplies and nutrition for patients.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Monitoring current O.R. Control data to ensure patient throughput and operational efficiency.
  • Running reports to review cancellations and delays for both the O.R. and Endoscopy.
  • Covering the PACU in the evening to provide critical administrative support.
  • Creating and implementing forms and tools that enhance the functionality of the unit.
  • Conducting statistical data analysis and generating detailed reports to inform project decisions.
  • Developing actionable insights to improve departmental performance and patient care
    outcomes.
  • Collaborating with managers on strategic initiatives to enhance operational workflows.
  • Supporting advanced data management systems and ensuring accurate reporting for departmental metrics.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree.
  • 3 to 5 years of administrative experience.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong verbal, written, organizational and interpersonal communication skills as well as strong decision-making skills.

Monday to Friday; 11:00AM to 7:00PM (Full-Time)

Salary Grade/Rank:

SL-2

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
