Job Summary:

The Office of Senior Vice President for Research at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Research Data Analyst / Associate for Institutional Research.

The Research Data Analyst will provide essential biostatistical support to Downstate researchers and TRANSPORT scholars across a range of research projects focused on human subjects. The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in data management, data analysis, data visualization, biostatistics, and the use of statistical software. This role is pivotal in enhancing the research capacity at DHSU by offering high-level analysis techniques that drive impactful research and extramural funding outcomes for the Downstate community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Data Management and Visualization (25%): Oversee the collection, processing, storage, and visualization of research data. Ensure data quality and integrity. Facilitate the acquisition and management of data from various sources. Help develop websites for data visualization and utilization by the Downstate community and the public.
  • Statistical Analysis (35%): Conduct biostatistical analysis using advanced statistical software. Develop predictive models and perform exploratory data analyses. Provide statistical consultation to researchers in planning studies and interpreting data.
  • Training Development (15%): Design and develop training modules in data analytics and biostatistics tailored to the needs of the Downstate community. Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance data literacy and analytical skills among faculty and researchers.
  • Research Collaboration (15%): Collaborate closely with researchers to design experiments and analyze data. Assist in manuscript development for publication in scientific journals. Contribute to grant applications and progress reports.
  • Mentorship (10%): Train and mentor junior scholars and students on biostatistical methods and best practices in data management.

Other Duties:

  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss research progress and challenges.
  • Stay abreast of latest developments in biostatistics and apply new techniques to ongoing research.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher (doctoral degree preferred) in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Experience with qualitative data collection and management is a plus.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and management, particularly in a research or academic setting.
  • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS) and data visualization software (e.g. Tableau).
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills to engage constructively with diverse teams, including researchers, faculty, and administrative staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
