Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Clinical Technical Services Speech Pathologist 2. The successful candidate will:

  • Perform speech and swallow evaluations.
  • Perform cognition/communication skills evaluations. 
  • Perform modified barium swallow (MBS) studies for patient of all ages. 
  • Determine appropriate diet recommendations. 
  • Coordinate with dietary, nursing, and medical staff in managing diet textures, consistencies and restrictions. 
  • Educate residents, nursing, patients and families regarding alternative nutrition methods. 
  • Document initial assessments, follow-up treatments, results of MBS, etc. according to departmental and institutional policies and standards.
  • Mentor SLP students and affiliates.
  • Be a role model for other members of the team, while modeling the WE CARE values of the institution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an institution accredited by New York State.
  • 3+ years of related experience in an acute hospital setting.
  • Proficiency in performing Modified Barium Swallowing (MBS) studies.
  • Excellent bedside manners, effective and efficient communication skill, and strong time management skills are required.

Work Schedule:

Sunday to Thursday; 9:00am to 5:00pm (Full-Time)

Salary Grade/Rank:

SL-3

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
