Job Summary:

The Department of Ambulatory Care Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part-time TH Staff Assistant 2 / Registrar. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Bed Control

  • Process admissions of patients from the Emergency Department, Ambulatory Care Same Day Surgery, and the Recovery Room.
  • Receive transfer for patients leaving or going to the various intensive care units.
  • Inform Nursing/unit clerks of new admissions.

Bed Management Work list/Allscripts Patient Flow

  • Process and input information regarding closed and/or blocked beds (repairs, contact isolation, etc.). 
  • Review Patient Flow to ensure Eagle reflect all patients waiting for beds in the Emergency Department along with pending admissions.
  • Review and complete Admission Work list on Patient Flow to synchronize patient status with Eagle (admissions/discharges/transfers).

Death Certificates and Autopsy Reports

  • Record expirations in expiration log book.
  • Follow up with Physicians on the completion of the Death Certificates and calling of the Department of Health.
  • Insure that physician spoke to the next of kin concerning autopsy.
  • Verify identity of next of kin. 

4. Other Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service and greet/serve all patients, visitor. Ensure ID badge is always work and is visible by patients and staff.
  • Greet, check in and check out all patients utilizing the EMT/Scheduling and other platforms.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of all patient medical information.
  • Schedule, Interview, scan, fax and conduct full registration of patients.
  • Conduct reconciliation and cancellation of patient appointments.
  • Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with all support staff, clinical staff, managers, department heads and Executive Leadership.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and work as a team, rotating to the various practices ensuring adequate registration coverage as business need requires.
  • Demonstrate flexibility with shift coverage, to include weekends, evenings, variable days as business need requires.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and work as a supportive team member by performing all other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor/manager/department head as business need requires.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency/literacy.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 1+ year of hospital-based experience.

Work Schedule:

Saturday and Sunday; 8:00am to 4:00pm (Part-Time/Alternating Weekends)

SL-1

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
