Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Staff Assistant 2 / Rehab Staff Assistant. Reporting to the Director of Therapy Services, the successful candidate will:

  • Provide administrative support to the staff in the Division of Rehabilitation Medicine.
  • Support patient care clerical and administrative activities, including efficient throughput, while trying to optimize the patient experience across the care continuum.
  • Greet patients arriving to the therapy gym areas.
  • Receive calls, relay information to appropriate parties, and follow-up where necessary and appropriate.
  • Schedule patients and provide reminders to patients and care providers.
  • Compose a variety of letters, memoranda, instructions, emails, and other documents on own initiative, from brief notes, and/or from verbal instruction.
  • Obtain and provide appropriate paperwork to hospital registration and billing departments as needed.
  • Search files, gather facts, and compile a variety of data required for preparation of reports.
  • Assist responses to legal and medical record requests.
  • Input and maintain rehab service data in the Uniform Data Systems (UDS).
  • For relief purposes, may be assigned clerical or secretarial activities of other personnel.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned and as business need requires.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree;
    • or an Associate's Degree with 2-years of relevant experience in an administrative support capacity.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; adept at multi-tasking.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Monday to Friday; 8:00am to 4:00pm

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
