The Department of Pharmacy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Pharmacy Assistant/Infusion Pharmacy Assistant. The successful candidate will:
Responsible for assisting the hospital pharmacists in their daily activities for dispensing, admixing, preparing, and monitoring drugs used for patient care. The Infusion Pharmacy Technician works with Patient Access Department and initiates the authorization process for approval of chemotherapy and medication infusions. Responsible for retrieving and documenting the required information needed for approval. Monitors the process and ensures that patients are scheduled for infusions. This position may require some physical activities such as lifting packages and drug containers.
- Under the direction and supervision of a pharmacist, provides accurate assistance in the filling of orders, performance of clerical duties and maintaining adequate supplies.
- Under the direction of a licensed pharmacist, compounds sterile intravenous preparations including the preparation and handling of hazardous drugs.
- Collaborate with the Patient Access Department to ensure that prior authorizations for medications are obtained in a timely manner and that the pharmacy is reimbursed for services rendered.
- Review records to obtain clinical information and ensure substantial clinical information exists to reach a clinical determination for pharmacist review.
- Effectively communicate issues and resolutions to pharmacy staff, providers, and appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Monitor, manage, and reconcile patient data base.
- Document information required for authorization of medications and administration.
- Schedule patients for infusions.
