Job Summary:
|
The Department of Ambulatory Services, Patient Access at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Registrar/ Staff Assistant 2. The successful candidate will:
- Provide excellent customer service and greet/serve all patients, visitors, staff with courtesy and respect, both in person and on the phone, by identifying yourself and location.
- Ensure ID badge is always worn and is visible by patients and staff.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to all customer phone calls and voicemails in a timely manner; ensure messages are promptly routed to appropriate staff.
- Greet, check in and check out all patients utilizing the EMR/Scheduling and other platforms.
- Maintain the confidentiality and privacy of all patient medical information.
- Schedule, Interview, scan, fax and conduct full registration of patients.
- Conduct reconciliation and cancelation of patient appointments.
- Conduct outreach to patients for appointment reminder calls and/or other outreach initiatives as directed.
- Conduct reconciliation of open visits through collaboration with the Manager/Supervisor.
- Verify financial/ insurance coverage and enter demographic data into EMR and other platforms.
- Obtain insurance authorization and reconcile authorizations as required.
- Collect co-pays, explanation of insurance/benefits, patient education, and redirect patients.
- Ensure all patients forms are completed in their entirety, including HIPAA, General Consent, Financial Agreement, Electronic signatures, and other medical forms required for compliance.
- Adhere to hospital policy and procedures and to educate patients.
- Engage and participate in departmental meetings and PI initiatives.
- Assist and conduct outreach with HEDIS/QARR measures.
- Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with all support staff, clinical staff, managers, department heads and Executive Leadership.
- Demonstrate flexibility and work as a team, rotating to the various practices ensuring adequate registration coverage as business need requires.
- Demonstrate flexibility with shift coverage, to include weekends, evenings, variable days as business need requires.
- Demonstrate accountability for overall job duties and be punctual and timely.
- Demonstrate flexibility and work as a supportive team member by performing all other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor/manager/department head as business need requires.

Required Qualifications:
|
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Computer proficiency/literacy.
|
Preferred Qualifications:
|
- Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- 1+ year of hospital-based experience preferred.
- Knowledge of third-party billing in managed care a plus.
|
