Job Summary:

The Bursar's Office at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Customer Service Specialist / Staff Assistant. The successful candidate will:

  • Verify all bank deposits for accuracy and ensure all information is updated to the student account system.
  • Process and reconcile receipts and deposits received for the hospital, campus and auxiliary departments.
  • Receive and issue receipts for sealed deposit pouches from other Downstate departments for the armored car service collection.
  • Scan checks for immediate and accurate deposit to the hospital and campus bank accounts.
  • Provide cashiering services, along with answering and responding to daily inquiries via email and telephone.
  • Post accurate payments, waivers and other financial data to student accounts in the student account system.
  • Verification of daily bank deposit through the on-line banking system.
  • Work with supervisor to organize scanning and file retention of office documents.
  • Provide excellent customer service to the SUNY Downstate Community.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting, Finance or related concentration.
  • 1-3 years of cashiering experience in bank or higher education environment with focus on excellent customer service.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SUNY and/or other government or state entity work experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity working with Banner, Argos, and CashNet is a plus.

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 9:00am to 5:00pm

Salary Grade/Rank:

SL-2

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
