Job Summary:

The Department of Surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Administrative Assistant/Clinical Coordinator, General Surgery. The successful candidate will:
- Provide broad range of administrative and professional support services for the Division of General Surgery.
- Develop and maintain effective systems for patient care (speaking with patients re demographic/insurance information, scheduling follow-ups, verifying insurance/pre authorizations, scheduling pre-admission testing/OR). Provide patients with the needed information.
- Schedule presurgical testing and submit the required documentation to the operating room to schedule surgery.
- Contact primary care physicians offices to obtain referrals when necessary.
- Maintain clear and open communication to all patient about their appointments and or upcoming surgeries.
- Work with minimal supervision with large autonomy on how to handle the administrative functions of patient care and the division.
- Coordinate of divisional activities among individuals and groups working within the incumbent's area.
- Act as a liaison between staff members, administrative, academic research and clinical personnel as well as off-campus individuals.
- Triage incoming telephone calls from varies individuals.
- Maintain files and patient records in a confidential manner.
- Successfully complete all systems training requirements and participate in accordance with hospital policies.
- Multitask, prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment.
