Job Summary:

The College of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part-time/hourly Adjunct Instructor. The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct clinical teaching and supervision of students in specialty areas (Medical-Surgical, Pediatric, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Mental/Behavioral Health and Community Health Nursing).
  • Orient students to the patient care unit, hospital/agency policies and procedures and appropriate patient record and documentation systems.
  • Conduct a clinical pre and post conference with students to the specific roles and responsibilities.
  • Assign students to patients, review clinical objectives and criteria with students and assign students to interpersonal care presentation.
  • Provide and guide student as it relates to the College of Nursing clinical policies.
  • Evaluate student clinical performance and submit these to the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Communicate with the Clinical Coordinator, Program Directors, Director of Clinical Services, and Associate Dean for Transformational Education. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License. 
  • Master's Degree.
  • 2 to 4 years of continuous clinical nursing experience in area of specialization, including Nurse Midwives and Nurse Practitioners. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree in Nursing or a related field with scholarly activities.
  • Graduate-level teaching experience and record of research and scholarship commensurate with academic rank.
