Job Summary:

The Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Nursing, NS35 NICU. Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing for Maternal Child Health, the successful candidate will:

  • Serve as the unit leader with 24-hour responsibility, to verify patient needs are met and evaluate the clinical performance of the nursing staff in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
  • Collaborate effectively as a team leader service as a resource to the nursing staff, in order to optimize the delivery of patient care for this most fragile group of patients.
  • Provide service by evaluating current nursing practices, and plan, manage all direct reports, i.e. nursing staff to meet any and all best practice initiatives put forth by professional organizations and regulatory agencies. 
  • Ensure the nurses in NICU are meeting best practice, working in a safe environment, providing quality care and meeting the vision and mission of SUNY Downstate.
  • Be a business partner to the healthcare team of the NICU department, be accountable to leadership responsibilities, including budgetary, quality, patient experience, patient flow, transforming the environment to one of trust, fairness, and professional recognition. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.
  • New York State Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • Enrolled in a Master's Program.
  • Certification in chemotherapy and in nursing management.
  • 3 to 5 years of active relevant clinical and management and/or progressive leadership experience. 
  • BLS certification.
  • Active member of a professional nursing organization.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ACLS certification.
  • Prior leadership accomplishment in nursing.

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 7:30am to 4:00pm

Salary Grade/Rank:

SL-5

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
