Job Summary:

The Midwifery Program in the School of Health Professions at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor / Assistant Professor (12MO). The successful candidate will:

  • Teach didactic and skills, including simulation, onsite and virtual.
  • Write and administer Competency Performance Examinations (clinical exams).
  • Develop and grade student written assignments and/or student presentations.
  • Provide student advisement.
  • Liaise with clinical sites.
  • Participate in information sessions for potential applicants.
  • Conduct admissions interviews and participate in admissions decisions.
  • Participate in school and university committee work.
  • Participate in professional research, or work toward an advanced degree (release time provided).
  • Work on curriculum development and revisions.
  • Attend school and program-wide faculty and staff meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Certification as Certified Midwife (CM) or Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM)
  • 2+ years of midwifery clinical experience.
  • Commitment to Certified Midwife credential, to an integrated program and to the Doctorate in Midwifery.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and participate in simulation.
  • Computer literacy in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and ability to learn new programs.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctorate Degree (DM, PhD, DrPH, EdD, DNP, other related).
  • Recent (within 2-years), full-scope midwifery experience.
  • Teaching experience – clinical and/or classroom
  • Professional involvement in midwifery.
  • Research experience.
  • Experience in anti-racism work.

Days Variable; Hours Variable

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
