Bargaining Unit:


The Department of Employee Health Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner/Assistant Director of Nursing. The successful candidate will: 

  • Independently medically evaluate and triage/treat (including writing prescriptions) patients coming to the Student/Employee Health Services during offices hours.
  • Discuss cases with physicians, when appropriate.
  • Appropriately carry out patient education, as required.
  • Perform pre-employment physical examinations on all new hospital employees, in compliance with the New York State 405.3 health code. This may include, when necessary, performing history, TD Mask fit testing, administering vaccines, PPD placement/reading/QuantiFERON gold testing.
  • Work closely with the Director of Employee Health Services.
  • Work with physicians to provide primary medical care, including emergency care for employees, students and volunteers.
  • Order and interpret lab tests ordered from the health service.
  • Administrate immunizations, procure blood draws, evaluate for return to duty, and health clearances of students and hospital employees.
  • Be responsible for annual evaluation of employees, perform pre-employment exams and manage all work-related injuries of the students, DCM (Division of Comparative Medicine) and hospital employees.
  • Formulate treatment plans and prescribe medications accordingly.
  • Provide clinical assessment, physical examination and management of an acute clinical situation within the scope of a licensed mid-level practitioner.
Required qualifications:
  • New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure.
  • Master of Science in Nursing.
  • BLS and ACLS Certification.
  • Evidence of participation in ongoing education.
  • Full credentialing at University Hospital of Brooklyn.
