Job Summary:

The Department of Facilities Management and Development at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Coordinator of Field Services. The successful candidate will: 

  1. Administer safety systems pertaining to campus-wide facilities, i.e. hospital, clinics, Research University, resident dorms, and daycare through: 
    1. Staff assignments.
    2. Direct and manage a staff of safety professionals to implement, monitor and measure contracted and consultative services.
    3. Implementation of policy and procedures.
    4. Contracted service vendors and consultants. 
  2. Manage the facility's fire protection, detection and notification systems to sustain the highest level of safety and the full compliance with life safety codes as per fire codes of NYS, NYFD and NFPA. 
  3. Develop management and action plans for facility-wide safety programs that includes processes and activities to: 
    1. Reduce and control environmental hazards and risks.
    2. Prevent accidents and injuries.
    3. Maintain a safe environment for patients, students, visitors, and staff.
    4. Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulatory laws, codes, and Accrediting agencies the Joint Commission (JCAHO).
  4. Oversee programs for the laboratory safety and disposal of hazardous waste disposal as per RCRA requirements. 
  5. Monitor the facility's compliance with Federal and State compliance environmental regulations NYS DEC - Clean Air Act (The V); interact with an environmental consultant to audit and generate regulatory report based on the date collected. 
  6. Maintain the facility's NYSDEC Petrol Bulk Storage (PBS) permit and make appropriate amendments and re-certification. 
  7. Coordinate the report and follow up action on petroleum related spills. 
  8. Establish safety training programs for the general staff orientation. 
  9. Communicate with the leadership of the campus entities through direct reporting, meetings and committees on the status and implementation of Environmental Health and Safety management issues. 
  10. Participate in hazard surveillance and incident reporting (i.e. Environmental Infection Control Rounds). 
  11. Participate in the development of, ongoing review of, and revision of all Safety policies and procedures. 
  12. Review incident and accident reports; develop procedures for identifying trends. 
  13. Provide support and guidance to the multidisciplinary safety committee. 
  14. Analyze safety issues in a timely manner.
  15. Develop recommendations for resolution of safety issues. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related fields, fire protection, engineering, chemistry, etc.
